my road so far
I’ve spent most of my life wishing I could be an artist but knowing I did not have a creative bone in my body.
I believed there were people in this world gifted with creativity and talent and there were people who were not gifted. I was decidedly in the second pile.
Then I lost my parents and realized that, if I didn’t do something, I would reach the end of my road having never found something that I was passionate about.
I picked up my first art instruction book less than a decade ago. I was way too self-conscious to let anyone help me. Never satisfied with what I put on paper, I studied in a constant state of shame. I finally got so frustrated with my lack of progress that it forced me to reach out and I began taking classes.
I’m a late bloomer! What you see here is not a product of my having pencil and pen in my hand at 5 years old. Not going to reveal my age but let’s just say I was clearly near the mid-point of my journey.
What I’ve learned from the road I’ve walked is that we all have a creative core just waiting to burst through. Every single one of us has something that will make our hearts burst with joy, something we can get happily lost in, something that is unique only to us.
Finding my own creative core has changed my life. I’m happier; less stressed and I enjoy a sense of purpose. The reason I did Color Brick Road™ was to provide a framework of creative joy to help people start. Maybe being a colorist is what brings you joy or maybe coloring for the first time will simply get that door open to your own powerful creativity.
I encourage you to find your road! If it’s cooking start cooking. If it’s singing join a choir. If it’s golf buy some clubs. Just start! Take a class. Ask a friend to help you. Go online – there are a ton of resources available.
It doesn’t take 8 hours a day. It just needs small blocks of time on a regular basis.
I’m grateful you’re here and as you leave please take this message with you:
If I can do it, you can.
